    Azalea flowering duration and timing?

I have an Azalea ' Geisha Orange', which I've had for a couple of months. When I bought it, it had lots of tight buds, which opened out within a week. Now all the flowers have dropped off. We have had some strong winds recently, but I don't know whether this caused them to fall, or whether they don't flower for very long anyway. I've never had one before, so I have no idea whether more flowers will come? Can anyone advise please? It is in a pot with ericaceous compost and is otherwise looking healthy. Many thanks.

    Hi Tiny Garden,

Great question about Azaleas flowering duration, which also applies to Rhododendrons too.

Azaleas flower briefly for a few weeks in mid to late spring here in the UK.

It's a fleeting flower and strong winds can whip them off. However, they are a valuable shrub for both evergreen structure and also early pollen for bees.

The best way to ensure longer flowering periods is to plant a few different Azaleas or Rhododendrons together with different flowering windows. So you can succession plant. So as one finishes another starts. It's a bit more wort to find the right species but worth it if you want a longer display!

    Happy gardening!

Thanks for that! I shall look into buying a couple more to extend the flowering season. ??
