Dying photinia and New Zealand flax?

Hello! I have two photinia plants on my balcony in pots right next to eachother - one is going strong, nice and green but the other is now fully brown. The brown one was next to a New Zealand flax plant that’s got mealy bugs so I’m wondering if it’s been infected too? I can’t see the usual mealy bug symptoms on the photinia though. Wondering if I should also bother with trying to save the New Zealand flax - I’ve got two that are struggling. Any help would be much appreciated!

Hey there, I am sorry to hear about the condition of your plants. It could be possible that your Photinia plant may be attacked by the mealybugs from the New Zealand Flax. So, first, do a thorough check on your plants for any sign of pest infestation. If not, there must be other problems that you should consider such as -

    • Watering: Check if you are watering both of your Photinia plants similarly.
    • Sunlight: Make sure both of your plants are getting enough sunlight,
    • Soil: Check for any water-logging problems in the soil that might be leading to root damage.
    • Disease: Other than mealybugs there might be some other pests or diseases that can affect the health of your plants so check for any symptoms for one.

Regarding your New Zealand Flax, you should try saving it by first isolating the plant, removing visible pests manually, and using insecticidal soap for any hidden pests. By regularly inspecting your plant you might be able to save it. I hope this helped.
