Help! Any pests/fungus/problems here with my young Hydrangea

Hi everyone, I planted a young hydrangea (Teller Blau) in my garden about a month ago, and I have noticed two issues recently that I'm a bit concerned about.

First, there are small black spots appearing on some of the new branches.

Second, I noticed that a few leaves on one of the new branches are starting to look unhealthy — some parts have turned slightly grey.

Does anyone know what might be causing these problems? I would really appreciate any advice!

    Hi @aiqi

Thanks for your question on Hydrangeas, tbh it looks pretty healthy to me! The dark blotches look more like a plant that's being overwatered.

The black dots are a common pigmentation on Hydrangea stems, so don't panic about that. If they were on the leaves it would be another matter. Black or brown spots on the leaves, wilting, or other signs of stress may indicate a fungal issue, such as Cercospora leaf spot or Anthracnose, which may require further attention.

Black spots on hydrangea stems are often harmless and not a sign of disease; they are normal. These marks are usually lenticels—small, natural pores that help the plant exchange gases. They're a normal feature, especially on bigleaf hydrangeas (Hydrangea macrophylla), and nothing to worry about.

    I hope that helps!
