    Low hanging tree branch

Hi everyone! I'm an absolute novice 🙂

We just moved into a property and the garden needs a bit of attention. Especially, there is a tree that has a very low hanging branch (see picture), but my feeling is that it's a little too late in the season to cut it back (along with it's other smaller friends). What do you reckon we should do? I am worried as it's growing over the small olive tree!

    Thanks for your help!

    Hi @giuliog

Thanks for your question on when to cut low hanging tree branches.

The best advice with tree pruning is to wait until winter for deciduous trees (those that shed their leaves each Autumn) and for evergreen choose early Spring (when they are ready to put on new growth and more likely to heal quickly).

Always take the cut either right back to the main trunk or a suitable outward facing side shoot using clean sharp tools like secateurs or loppers depending on the thickness of the branch.

    Happy gardening!

    Hey,

It's generally safe to prune trees during their dormant season, typically late fall to early spring;. For now, you can carefully trim the low-hanging branch if it's causing an issue;. Just avoid heavy pruning during summer as it can stress the tree. If you are unsure, consulting a local arborist could be a good idea.

Good luck with your garden 🌳
