I have this peace lily that was doing so good last summer and then this winter it started really thinning out, but it has new growth always opening up. However right after a new leaf opens it starts turning black and dies...within like a week. I don't know how to help it thrive. I know I'm not over watering it, I dont think I'm under watering it either. I wait until the top inch or of soil is dry before watering. I have it in a spot with bright indirect sunlight. This plant is very important to me, it was a small peace lily given to me at a family members funeral. It's been around for almost 4 years....I just want to save it.

It sound like your peace lily might be suffering from root rot, even if you are not overwatering it directly, now think about repotting it with fresh soil and providing proper drainage to help it recover.
